Meet the 2026 Future 54 Leading Women:

Precious Oluwadamilola Adeleke NIGERIA

Precious Adeleke is the Founder and Executive Director of the Preshh BlossomGirls Advocacy Initiative, where she is championing menstrual health education and sexual and reproductive health rights for girls in underserved communities. Through grassroots outreach, health education and training girls to produce reusable sanitary pads, her work has already empowered more than 3,000 girls to attend school with greater confidence and dignity. A recipient of the Luminary Impact Award and a Period with Pride Fellow, Adeleke is driven by one belief – no girl should be held back because of her period.

Over the next five years, she hopes to help transform how menstrual health is understood and addressed by expanding her organisation’s reach, strengthening community support systems and ensuring more girls can access education free from stigma. As she grows the initiative, she is intentionally developing the emotional intelligence, strategic thinking and leadership skills needed to build sustainable systems that create lasting impact.

One lesson has shaped her journey above all else: meaningful change is built through consistency, not intensity. By showing up, starting with what you have and trusting your voice, she believes every woman has the power to create lasting change.

Amrah Aliyu NIGERIA

Amrah Aliyu is a gender justice advocate, author and social entrepreneur whose work is expanding opportunities for women and girls across Northern Nigeria. As the Founder of the Salma Attah Foundation for Women and Girls Support, she has empowered more than 20,000 women and girls through education, menstrual equity, digital inclusion and grassroots advocacy. She is also the visionary behind the Kallabi Leadership Fellowship and GirlCode Bootcamp, initiatives equipping young women with leadership experience and digital skills to shape the future.

Aliyu’s vision for the next five years is to help build a generation of women with greater access to leadership, education, economic opportunity and lives free from violence. Every programme she leads is designed to create systems that endure beyond her own leadership. To achieve that, she is intentionally learning to lead with vision rather than urgency, strengthening her ability to delegate, make data-informed decisions and create sustainable change.

Her advice to other women is simple but powerful: don’t wait until you feel ready. Confidence is built through action, and consistency will always speak louder than perfection.

Theo Boitshwarelo BOTSWANA

Theo Boitshwarelo is a sustainability advocate, green entrepreneur and founder of Eco-Gen, a youth-led organisation advancing climate literacy, sustainable development and green entrepreneurship across Africa. Through Eco-Gen Consultancy and initiatives such as the Green Entrepreneurship Lab, she works with businesses, communities and young innovators to develop practical solutions that create environmental, social and economic value.

Looking ahead, Boitshwarelo wants to make sustainability education and green opportunities accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds, particularly those in rural and underserved communities. She is laying that foundation by strengthening partnerships, investing in continuous learning and developing platforms that inspire collaboration and innovation. Alongside her professional growth, she is intentionally cultivating servant leadership while learning to balance humility with accountability and doing the personal work needed to lead with integrity and emotional maturity.

One lesson continues to guide her journey: your gifts will open doors long before you feel completely ready. She encourages women to trust themselves, embrace opportunities with courage and believe they are capable of growing into every new challenge.

Zimkitha Duze SOUTH AFRICA

Zimkitha Duze is the Founder and CEO of Uuka EcoBricks, a cleantech startup transforming plastic and glass waste into sustainable building materials. Inspired by the environmental challenges and unemployment she witnessed after returning home to Kimberley, she built a business proving that innovation can create both economic opportunity and environmental solutions. Her work has earned recognition through the Reside Summit Construction Product of the Year Awards, the Visa She’s Next programme and the Motsepe Foundation Golden Circle.

Over the next five years, Duze hopes to reshape how communities think about waste, housing and economic opportunity by expanding Uuka EcoBricks across South Africa and into other African markets. Her vision is to create jobs, strengthen circular economy practices and inspire more young entrepreneurs to see opportunity where others see obstacles. As she builds the business, she is intentionally growing into a leader who leads with courage, humility and emotional intelligence while embracing continuous learning and resilience.

The greatest lesson she has learned is that you don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin. Start where you are, ask for help when you need it and trust that persistence and purpose will open doors.

Amb. Rebecca Ebong NIGERIA

Rebecca Ebong is the Founder and Creative Director of VPkids, a purpose-driven children’s fashion brand using fashion as a platform to nurture confidence, creativity, leadership and academic excellence in young people. A marketing strategist, entrepreneur, author and business development consultant, she has built a career creating brands that deliver both commercial success and meaningful social impact, while earning recognition as one of Africa’s inspiring women leaders.

Ebong envisions VPkids becoming one of Africa’s leading children’s fashion brands over the next five years, expanding across the continent while continuing to redefine what children’s fashion can achieve. Through the VPkids Fashion Show and future growth, she hopes to inspire confidence, celebrate education and shape a generation of children who lead with purpose and character. As she works towards that vision, she is intentionally becoming a more thoughtful and emotionally intelligent leader, focused on building systems and a legacy that will outlive her.

The lesson she hopes every woman carries forward is that purpose must always come before profit. When work is rooted in service, integrity and excellence, success becomes more than a destination – it becomes a legacy that transforms lives.

Gladys Emmanuel NIGERIA

Gladys Rebecca Emmanuel is an award-winning human rights lawyer, gender justice advocate and researcher whose work is advancing legal empowerment across Africa. A Cardiff University Vice-Chancellor’s Scholar and PhD candidate in Gender Studies, she combines survivor-centred research, legal advocacy and grassroots mobilisation to strengthen pathways to justice for women and girls. From leading the ministerially endorsed Girls Vanguard Project to serving as a UNFPA/Chayn Ambassador for Tech-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence response, Emmanuel is helping shape conversations on gender justice at both community and global levels.

Over the next five years, she hopes to see a measurable shift towards systemic gender justice, where more women and girls exercise agency, influence policy and live free from violence. She is working towards that future by scaling grassroots initiatives, strengthening legal systems and translating research into practical solutions that create lasting change. Alongside her advocacy, she is intentionally cultivating resilience, strategic foresight and a leadership style rooted in collaboration and mentorship.

Her message to other women is clear: if a seat is not offered, bring your own chair. By claiming your place with confidence, you create opportunities not only for yourself but for the generations of women who follow.

Esther Eruchie NIGERIA

Esther Eruchie is the Founder and CEO of FriendnPal, one of Africa’s pioneering AI-powered behavioural health platforms using predictive technology to improve access to mental healthcare. After personal loss inspired her to address gaps in behavioural healthcare, she taught herself software engineering and has since built a platform that has reached more than 87,000 people while earning international recognition for innovation and social impact.

Looking ahead, Eruchie envisions healthcare systems that identify risk before crisis, making care more proactive, inclusive and accessible across Africa and other emerging markets. Through FriendnPal, she is building ethical AI infrastructure, strengthening partnerships with governments and healthcare institutions and contributing to global conversations on responsible innovation. She is equally intentional about becoming the kind of leader who builds institutions, empowers others and creates systems that endure beyond her own leadership.

One lesson has shaped her journey: you do not need permission to pursue a vision others cannot yet see. Purpose, continuous learning and the courage to begin can transform both lives and entire systems.

Ontifile Gaokgorwe BOTSWANA

Ontifile Gaokgorwe is an award-winning social entrepreneur and disability inclusion advocate committed to ensuring every child has the opportunity to belong and thrive. As the Founder and Director of The Bees Hive Academy and Founder of The Inclusion Hub Connect, she is creating inclusive education pathways that give children with disabilities access to quality learning and developmental support while empowering families, educators and communities.

Over the next five years, Gaokgorwe hopes to establish a centre of excellence for inclusive education while expanding digital access to developmental support across Botswana and beyond. She is laying the groundwork through strategic partnerships, investment in leadership development and programmes that uplift children, families and aspiring entrepreneurs. Alongside this work, she is intentionally building a leadership style that prioritises well-being, empathy and collaboration, believing that lasting impact comes from empowering others rather than carrying every burden alone.

Her greatest lesson is that your circumstances do not determine your destiny. By starting where you are, embracing growth and allowing your story to inspire others, every challenge can become the foundation for meaningful impact.

Winnie Gathu KENYA

Winnie Gathu is the Founder and Executive Director of Girl Code Movement, an innovation ecosystem creating pathways for African women and young people to participate in emerging economies. Through initiatives spanning artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship and digital manufacturing, she is helping connect talent with real economic opportunities while designing systems that strengthen Africa’s innovation landscape.

Her vision for the next five years is to shift the conversation from developing talent to deploying talent by building the infrastructure that connects skills with employment, entrepreneurship and cross-border opportunity. From talent verification systems to commercial partnerships and policy engagement, Gathu is focused on creating sustainable pathways into meaningful work for young Africans. As her organisation grows, she is intentionally learning to lead from behind by building governance structures, empowering others to make decisions and creating institutions that can thrive without her constant presence.

One lesson has transformed her leadership: influence is not about speaking louder, but about making your work understandable to the people who can move it forward. She believes women should never dilute their vision, only learn how to communicate it so it can travel further.

Dineo Glomane SOUTH AFRICA

Dineo Glomane is the co-founder of Womech Mechanical Works Specialists, a black women-owned mechanical and auto-electrical workshop that she built alongside her sister after an unexpected career path led her into the automotive industry. What began as a leap of faith has grown into a respected one-stop workshop in Mpumalanga, recognised for quality workmanship and a commitment to challenging perceptions of women in technical trades.

Over the next five years, Glomane hopes to expand Womech into new provinces and the mining sector while proving that women can thrive in industries traditionally dominated by men. She is already preparing for that growth by refining the business model and investing in learnerships and apprenticeships that give young people, particularly young women, practical experience and mentorship. At the same time, she is intentionally strengthening her leadership through coaching, mentorship and continuous personal growth, recognising that leadership is a skill that must be developed.

The lesson she hopes every woman embraces is to believe in yourself before anyone else does. Confidence is built through showing up, doing the work and trusting your own ability, even when others underestimate you.

Deshnie Govender SOUTH AFRICA

Deshnie Govender is an award-winning marketing executive, entrepreneur and founder of Studio 545, a media and consulting company empowering the next generation of African marketers, creators and business leaders. Having held senior leadership roles at global brands including TikTok, L’Oréal, Diageo and AB InBev, she has led marketing strategies across Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas. Through Studio 545, she is making world-class marketing knowledge, networks and opportunities more accessible to talent across emerging markets.

Over the next five years, Govender hopes to redefine how marketing talent is developed and connected across Africa by building Studio 545 into a leading platform where education, media, community and consulting converge. Through initiatives such as In The Room, she is creating access to conversations, insights and opportunities that have traditionally been reserved for a select few. As she builds this ecosystem, she is intentionally evolving from a brand builder into a leader who creates platforms that help others learn, grow and lead.

The greatest lesson she can share with women today is simple, what got you here will not get you there. Every stage of leadership demands growth and women should never wait until they feel ready before owning their expertise and creating opportunities for themselves and others.

Christina Horace KENYA

Christina Horace is the Founder and Creative Director of Miss Kibichi, a sustainable fashion brand using circular design, innovation and cultural storytelling to reimagine African fashion. Passionate about conscious consumption and purposeful creativity, she is building a brand that celebrates African craftsmanship while inspiring women and young creatives to embrace originality and create businesses that deliver lasting social and environmental impact.

Horace’s vision is to see Miss Kibichi become a globally recognised African fashion brand that demonstrates how sustainability and innovation can shape the future of the industry. She is building that future through continuous learning, mentorship, creative collaborations and collections rooted in responsible design. Alongside her entrepreneurial journey, she is intentionally strengthening her resilience, discipline and confidence while remaining committed to leading with empathy and lifelong learning.

Her advice to other women is to embrace their own journey without comparison. Rejection is often redirection, and consistent action, grounded in purpose, will always create opportunities that cannot yet be seen.

Salma Ibrahim KENYA

Salma Ibrahim is the Founder of Business Week Afrika, one of Africa’s fastest-growing entrepreneur support organisations, dedicated to helping businesses communicate with clarity, grow sustainably and compete globally. A content creator, global speaker and entrepreneurship development consultant, she works across the continent to equip entrepreneurs with practical knowledge, meaningful networks and opportunities that accelerate business growth.

Over the next five years, Ibrahim hopes to contribute to an Africa where more entrepreneurs build profitable, scalable businesses that drive innovation, create jobs and strengthen the continent’s economy. Through Business Week Afrika, she is already creating platforms that connect entrepreneurs with knowledge, markets, investment and partnerships that unlock long-term success. Personally, she is intentionally focused on becoming the kind of leader who creates meaningful impact through consistent daily choices rather than chasing titles or milestones.

The lesson that guides her leadership is that life unfolds in seasons. Women should give themselves permission to embrace the season they are in, trusting that each chapter prepares them for what comes next.

Lauren Jacobs SOUTH AFRICA

Lauren Jacobs is an award-winning journalist, author and founder of She Speaks Sport, a media platform dedicated to telling athletes’ stories in their own voices while championing women’s sport. After nearly a decade as a social justice journalist, she expanded her work into broadcasting, publishing and advocacy, earning numerous awards for her commitment to amplifying the voices of women and girls. She is also a PhD candidate and continues to combine journalism, theology and storytelling to create meaningful social impact.

Over the next five years, Jacobs hopes to grow She Speaks Sport into an even stronger platform for female athletes while writing biographies that preserve the stories of women whose contributions have too often gone undocumented. She is equally committed to mentoring the next generation of women entering the sports industry and preparing to serve as a sports chaplain, providing holistic support to female athletes. Throughout her journey, she remains intentional about lifelong learning, staying true to her values and creating space for other women to thrive.

Her greatest lesson is that purpose outlasts disappointment. When you know your calling and remain true to your unique strengths, setbacks become part of the journey rather than the end of it.

Tsholofelo Millicent Jansen SOUTH AFRICA

Tsholofelo Millicent Jansen is the Founder and CEO of Khutsho Solutions, a steel fabrication business based in Kuruman in the Northern Cape. Passionate about manufacturing, innovation and community development, she is committed to creating opportunities through entrepreneurship while championing women in business and inspiring young people to pursue their ambitions. As a project supervisor and lifelong learner, she continues to invest in her own development to strengthen both her business and the community around her.

Over the next five years, Jansen hopes to create meaningful employment, empower entrepreneurs and demonstrate that locally manufactured products can compete at the highest level while contributing to economic growth. She is working towards that vision by strengthening her leadership, expanding her business knowledge, building strategic partnerships and using initiatives such as #30Days30Businesses and #TheFoundation to promote and support fellow entrepreneurs. Alongside this work, she is intentionally developing the confidence, resilience and discipline needed to lead with courage and purpose.

The most important lesson she has learned is that confidence follows action, not the other way around. By taking the first step, continuing to learn and supporting other women along the way, every woman can become the best version of herself.

Olufolake Johnson NIGERIA

Olufolake “Steaze” Johnson is an award-winning marketing strategist, brand transformation leader and founder of The FSJ Company, where she helps organisations unlock growth, strengthen brands and create meaningful impact. With leadership experience spanning some of Africa’s leading organisations, she has built a career at the intersection of business, storytelling and innovation. Increasingly, her work is focused on using authentic African stories to reshape perceptions, inspire positive social change and elevate the continent’s global narrative.

Over the next five years, Johnson hopes to help strengthen Africa’s brand by building platforms that influence culture, empower leaders and equip organisations to create lasting impact. Through strategic consulting, leadership development, documentary filmmaking and thought leadership, she is investing in institutions designed to outlive individual projects. As she grows, she is intentionally evolving from someone known for delivering results into a leader committed to building enduring impact through empathy, resilience and purposeful leadership.

The lesson that continues to guide her is that purpose must always be greater than position. Titles may change, but a purpose-driven life creates a legacy that transforms communities long after individual success has faded.

She is also intentionally cultivating greater self-awareness, embracing the power of thoughtful reflection while expanding her knowledge of artificial intelligence and its responsible application.

One lesson has remained constant throughout her journey: surround yourself with the right people. A trusted community that challenges, supports and encourages growth is one of the most valuable investments any leader can make.

As she pursues that vision, she is intentionally learning to lead from a place of wholeness, strengthening her emotional resilience and grounding her leadership in integrity, humility and service.

Her greatest lesson is that consistency shapes purpose. The small decisions, daily habits and willingness to keep showing up often become the foundation for extraordinary opportunities.

Zama Khumalo SOUTH AFRICA

Zama Khumalo is a digital marketing professional, speaker and founder of KZN Tech Mbokodo, a foundation empowering women in technology through skills development, mentorship and community. She is also the founder of Blue Paw Communications, an organisation dedicated to amplifying individuals and organisations within the technology ecosystem. Over the next five years, Khumalo hopes to expand KZN Tech Mbokodo across South Africa, bringing digital skills training, mentorship and entrepreneurial opportunities to women in underserved communities. Her vision is to build spaces where women are seen, heard and equipped to create lasting change for themselves and their communities. She is intentionally becoming the kind of leader who serves with purpose, builds opportunities instead of waiting for them and measures success by how many other women rise alongside her.

The lesson she hopes every woman embraces is to honour the season she is in while remaining true to herself. By trusting the process and building with integrity, women can create meaningful work without losing who they are along the way.

Thayu Kilili KENYA

Thayu Kilili is a creative director, storyteller and founder of Creatives Garage, one of East Africa’s leading creative ecosystems supporting artists through collaboration, innovation and cultural storytelling. Her work reflects a deep belief that creativity is a powerful force for social change and economic opportunity.

Looking ahead, Kilili hopes to expand the possibilities of African creativity by building platforms where artists can experiment, collaborate and shape global conversations through authentic African narratives. She continues to lay that foundation by mentoring emerging creatives, embracing new technologies and developing innovative ways for audiences to experience culture and storytelling. Personally, she is intentionally creating more space for the next generation of leaders, recognising that strong institutions are built by leaders who know when to empower others to take the lead.

Her advice to other women is simple: just get started. You do not need perfect conditions to build something meaningful. Curiosity, persistence and the courage to take the first step often create opportunities beyond anything you imagined.

Alongside this, she is intentionally shifting from operational leadership to strategic vision, cultivating resilience, patience and the ability to build systems that outlast her.

She is already bringing that vision to life by embedding these insights into client strategy while using her role as a Canva Ambassador to equip students, creatives and organisations with accessible design skills grounded in cultural relevance.

Alongside building her business, Makanda is intentionally challenging the limiting beliefs that come from growing up where opportunities felt scarce. She is learning to trust that her perspective is valuable and to take up space with confidence.

One of the biggest lessons she has learned is that success should never prevent reinvention. Sometimes the greatest opportunity lies not in protecting what already works, but in having the courage to rebuild it into something even more meaningful.
