What does it mean to build a platform that helps women become more fully themselves, rather than simply more successful? For Mpumi Khumalo, the answer lies in creating spaces where women can talk honestly about identity, purpose, faith, leadership and growth.
Khumalo is the Founder and Creative Director of Cultivate Woman, a South African platform she established in 2019 to support women navigating the different seasons of womanhood. Through curated conversations, experiences and content, Cultivate Woman explores the intersection of faith, wellness, career, leadership and self-development.
Her career began in corporate communications, digital marketing and content strategy, where more than a decade of experience taught her how to build narratives that connect with audiences and turn ideas into action. That strategic foundation now informs her work as a media strategist, television host and creative entrepreneur.
Khumalo has worked across platforms and campaigns including TikTok Africa, the Crown Gospel Awards, the Gauteng Film Festival and Africa Beyond 4IR. She is also the host of Out & About on One Gospel, bringing her storytelling and communication skills into broadcast.
But Cultivate Woman has become the space where her different interests converge.
The platform has evolved from curated experiences into a growing media ecosystem, including the Cultivate Woman Podcast. Its conversations explore subjects such as healing, identity, purpose, leadership and the realities of living out one’s faith. Recent episodes have included conversations about healing and mental health, redefining success and learning to trust God through seasons of uncertainty.
For Khumalo, the work is personal as well as professional.
She is intentionally learning to lead from a place of wholeness rather than performance. For years, achievement was her measure of success. Now, she is more interested in the character behind the achievement – developing emotional resilience, strengthening her decision-making, embracing discipline and learning to trust God’s timing when the path ahead is unclear.
That shift is changing what she wants Cultivate Woman to become.
Over the next five years, Khumalo hopes to establish it as one of Africa’s trusted platforms for women seeking to grow in leadership, faith and purpose. She wants to develop media, experiences and resources that shape culture, encourage courageous leadership and create opportunities for women to thrive across different areas of society.
She is building towards that vision through content, podcasting, television, community and partnerships. The latest evolution of the Cultivate Woman Podcast reflects this direction, creating a regular space for women to engage with faith and everyday life through honest conversations and practical wisdom.
Her ambition is deliberately long-term. Rather than chasing individual moments of visibility, Khumalo wants to build something that can outlive her – a platform whose value is measured by the women it helps develop and the conversations it makes possible.
That philosophy is reflected in her own approach to growth. She believes consistency is often more powerful than waiting for a breakthrough. The small decisions made every day, the habits that are built quietly and the willingness to keep showing up when nobody is watching can become the foundation for extraordinary opportunities.
For Khumalo, purpose is cultivated rather than discovered in one defining moment.
It is a process of showing up, learning, becoming and creating space for others to do the same. Through Cultivate Woman, she is building a platform that asks women not only what they want to achieve, but who they are becoming along the way.
Mpumi Khumalo is a Future 54 Leading Women honouree in the 2026 Cohort, recognising women shaping Africa through leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship and meaningful impact.
